Greek physician and pharmacologist of the first century AD
About Dioscorides
Pedanius Dioscorides was a Greek physician and pharmacologist of the first century CE, probably from Anazarbus in Cilicia. He is traditionally associated with service in the Roman army, which would help explain the geographical range of his drug knowledge. His De Materia Medica became the central pharmacological handbook of antiquity, Byzantium, the Islamic world and Renaissance Europe.
