About Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury (1920–2012) was born in Waukegan, Illinois, and moved with his family to Los Angeles in 1934. He never attended college and called the public library his university, selling stories to pulp magazines through the 1940s. The Martian Chronicles (1950), The Illustrated Man (1951), Fahrenheit 451 (1953), Dandelion Wine (1957) and Something Wicked This Way Comes (1962) made him one of the best-known American writers of fantasy and science fiction. He received the National Medal of Arts in 2004 and a Pulitzer Prize special citation in 2007.
Fahrenheit 451 is set in an American city of an unspecified future where houses are fireproof and firemen no longer put out fires but start them, burning books and the houses of people who hide them. Guy Montag, a fireman of ten years, loves the work.
