Quotation from Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche
“Wherever the religious neurosis has appeared on the earth so far, we find it connected with three dangerous prescriptions as to regimen: solitude, fasting, and sexual abstinence”
Beyond Good and Evil, Part Three, §47, trans. Helen Zimmern (1906)
Nietzsche treats the saint as a psychological and physiological type, speculating about 'disguised epilepsy' and alluding to alienists studying the Salvation Army.
