Quotation from Ethics by Baruch Spinoza
“So they will pursue their questions from cause to cause, till at last you take refuge in the will of God--in other words, the sanctuary of ignorance”
Ethics, Part I, Appendix, trans. R. H. M. Elwes (1883)
Spinoza mocks those who explain natural events, such as a man killed by a falling stone, by appeal to divine purpose.
