Quotation from Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky
“We are stillborn, and for generations past have been begotten, not by living fathers, and that suits us better and better.”
Notes from Underground, Part II, Chapter X, trans. Constance Garnett (1918)
In his closing reflections the narrator widens his diagnosis to his whole generation, divorced from real life and living by books.
