Quotation from The Art of War by Sun Tzu
“Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys; look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death”
The Art of War, Ch. X.25 (Terrain), trans. Lionel Giles (1910)
Sun Tzu's paternal model of command, immediately qualified by a warning against indulgence that leaves soldiers like spoilt children.
