John Wesley (1703-1791) was an Anglican priest, evangelist, organizer, and founder of Methodism. Educated at Oxford, he helped create disciplined societies, itinerant preaching networks, and a practical spirituality of holiness. He also published Primitive Physick, a popular guide to simple medical remedies for ordinary people.
Wesley's Sermons on Several Occasions and Primitive Physick make an unusually strong pairing for a medical classics library. The sermons define Methodist teaching on salvation, new birth, sanctification, practical holiness, the means of grace, Christian perfection, money, self-denial, and social responsibility.
