Quotation from Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry by W. B. Yeats (editor)
“for every one is a visionary, if you scratch him deep enough. But the Celt is a visionary without scratching.”
Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry, Introduction (Walter Scott Publishing Co., 1888 (Project Gutenberg text))
Yeats contrasts the city's doubters with the country people, among whom belief in fairies and ghosts remains alive.
