Quotation from The Theban Plays by Sophocles
“Therefore wait to see life’s ending ere thou count one mortal blest; Wait till free from pain and sorrow he has gained his final rest”
The Theban Plays, Oedipus the King, closing chorus, trans. F. Storr (1912)
The chorus turns Oedipus’s fall into a warning against declaring any human life fortunate before its end.
